Research institute of physics as a multi-profile scientific research organization was founded in 1936.

Institute is the prominent in Russia scientific organization in two areas of physics of solids: the physics of segnetoelectrics and synthesis of new segnetoelectric materials and X-ray and electron spectroscopy. Investigations in the different fields of modern physics are developed in Institute such as physics of surface, phase transitions physics, investigations of disordered solid systems, radiphysics, astrophysics and other. Institute have a well equipped experimental manufature able to produce up to 5 tonns of piezoceramic production annually .

Personnel: 207 research workers including 20 Doctors of Science and 101 Candidates of Science.
